Wike’s allies applaud court verdict suspending PDP Convention

...call it victory for rule of law

Key leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have hailed the decision of the Federal High Court in Abuja stopping the party’s planned national convention in Ibadan.

The group described the ruling by Justice James Omotosho as a major step toward restoring order, legality, and confidence in the PDP, saying it reaffirmed the supremacy of the party’s constitution and the rule of law in its internal affairs.

Meeting in Abuja on Friday to review the implications of the judgment, the leaders issued a communiqué praising the judiciary for what they called a courageous intervention that has rescued the PDP from further internal violations.

“We commend and reaffirm our faith in the judiciary,” the communiqué read. “As loyal and committed party members, we remain open to reconciliation, inclusion, and collective rebuilding. We invite all well-meaning members across the country to join hands in returning our great party to its founding ideals.”

The group said the verdict not only upheld the constitution of the PDP but also clearly defined the legal roles and limits of its officers.

According to the communiqué, the court confirmed Chief Dan Osi Orbih as the legitimate National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the PDP, declaring the appointment of Chief Emmanuel Ogidi null and void.

It added that the ruling restored integrity and discipline to the party by affirming that expelled members such as Ali Odefa had no legal authority to act or speak for the PDP.

“By affirming the expulsion of Ali Odefa, the court has reinstated discipline and integrity within the party, making it clear that those expelled have no standing to represent or litigate on behalf of the PDP,” the statement said.

The leaders also welcomed the court’s directive that no valid national convention could take place until all constitutional and procedural requirements were fully satisfied, describing it as a necessary safeguard against impunity.

Reaffirming their commitment to the PDP’s founding principles of justice, equity, fairness, and unity, the stakeholders urged members nationwide to rally around efforts to rebuild the party on the foundation of legality and accountability.

“We call on all faithful members and leaders to stand firm for truth, justice, and the rule of law — the very principles that define our great party and its promise to Nigerians,” the communiqué added.
