The Special Adviser to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abimbola Tooki, has dismissed widespread speculation surrounding the recent visit of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to the residence of the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, insisting that the meeting had no political undertone.
Speaking in a telephone conversation with ThisNigeria, Tooki described the visit as a routine private interaction, stressing that no national or party issues were discussed during the brief meeting.
According to him, insinuations linking the visit to recent political developments in Rivers State and the controversy surrounding Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s APC screening were unfounded.
“I can tell you clearly that they did not discuss anything national or political. It was purely a private visit,” Tooki said.
“The Minister did not stay long. The meeting was brief and cordial. I was there personally. It was simply a way of the Minister greeting the National Chairman.”
The clarification followed growing political tension after reports emerged that Governor Fubara allegedly stormed out of the APC governorship screening venue in Abuja following disagreements linked to his strained relationship with Wike.
Political observers had interpreted Wike’s visit as part of high-level consultations over Rivers State politics and the governor’s uncertain future within the ruling party.
However, Tooki insisted there was “absolutely no connection” between the meeting and ongoing developments within the APC.
“There was nothing about Rivers’ politics, nothing about screening, and nothing about any national issue,” he added.
The APC leadership is yet to officially comment on the outcome of Governor Fubara’s screening or the controversy trailing the process.
