WTO’s job coast clear for Okonjo-Iweala as Yoo bows

Following the withdrawal of South Korean Trade Minister Yoo Myung-hee  from being the Director-General of World Trade Organisation (WTO) the coast is now clear for Nigeria’s former Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Yoo Myung-hee announced  her withdrawal from the race for the job on Friday saying “there was no consensus…so, we needed enough time for in-depth consultations with important members, including the US,”

Okonjo-Iweala is now the sole candidate for the job as WTO members will have no issues  approving her appointment and when approved she will become the first woman and the first African to lead the World Trade Organization.
