The Bauchi Transport Corporation, operators of Yankari Express, has urged the state government to provide additional vehicles to boost its fleet.
Alhaji Mohammed Jibrin, General Manager of the Company, made the call while speaking with journalists on Thursday in Bauchi.
Jibrin said the company was facing a shortage of vehicles which negatively affected the confidence of commuters in its services.
According to him, the company has 40 functional operational buses, adding that the number is not enough to meet the growing demand for its services.
“We call on the state government to increase the fleet with an additional 50 new buses, we understand that the vehicles are costly.
“Additional vehicles will alleviate the suffering of commuters because our buses ply all routes in the northern region,” he said.
Jibrin said that the company was currently operating about 100 vehicles being managed under a lease agreement with private transport owners.
He said that security challenges and the poor state of roads had forced the company to suspend playing some routes, a trend that affected its revenue generation.

“This also affects revenue generation, we reduced the number of routes and slightly increase transport fare to be able to cover up operational costs,” he said.
The General Manager further urged the state government to expedite action towards the provision of office accommodation of the company to enhance its operations.
“The place we are operating belongs to the Bauchi Local Government Council, the situation is limiting our development plans. At times, passengers are stranded when they arrive late.”
While reiterating the commitment of the management to reinvigorate its operations, Jibrin urged commuters to continue to patronize its services.
