Young parliamentarians hail FG’s decision to evacuate stranded Nigerian students from Ukraine

The Nigerian Youth Parliament has commended the Federal Government for ordering the immediate evacuation of Nigerians from Russia, Ukraine and neighbouring countries.

The Speaker of the NYP, Azeezat Yishawu, who gave the commendation in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, said the a major concern lies of many students were currently at risk, in the European country.

She said the evacuation became necessary in the wake of attacks targeted at Ukraine by Russia in the heat of the war.

The young lawmakers noted that the latest invasion of Ukraine by Russia constituted a major concerns for the young parliamentarians.

They noted that students in the affected war zones were at great risk as conflicts escalated with recent attacks within the region.

The NYP said governments of counties across the world we’re currently prioritising the evacuation of their citizens from the area, to forestall harm.

Yishawu said, “Several Nigerians have fled the region due to the growing rate of insecurity and fear among them.

“The Nigerian Youth Parliament is concerned about the safety of our people in these troubled areas and is willing to give its assistance, where needed, to ensure the speedy evacuation of all Nigerians back home by the Federal Government.

” No Nigerian should be exposed to danger on foreign soil without the government making valiant efforts to bring them back home safely.

“We advise the Federal Government and major stakeholders to rapidly conclude arrangements for the evacuation.

“Nigeria has a large population of students in these areas, and it has become necessary for them all to be evacuated.

“Many Nigerian are in areas where borders have been shut-down, while airspaces are also being monitored.”
