
The Zamfara state government has donated some unspecified quantity of food items to victims of banditry in Maru and psychiatric patients in Anka local government area of the state, according to a government statement issued in Gusau, on Friday.
Malam Bashir Kabir-Ahmad, the Director of Information, state Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, who issued the statement, added that the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Fa’ika Ahmad led the distribution of the foodstuff.
Hajiya Fa’ika Ahmad, who distributed the items to 31 victims of banditry in Ruwan Doruwa town in Maru local government area, said the assistance was provided to assist the victims and reduce their hardship.
The commissioner also presented food items to psychiatric patients at the state Psychiatric Hospital in Anka town, the headquarters of Anka local government area of the state.
Ahmad described the psychiatric patients as one of the most vulnerable groups that require topmost social attention, pointing out that taking care of the patients was the responsibility of all in the society, and not government alone.
“My ministry has been committed to ensuring effective cushioning of hardships being experienced by the victims of banditry, and disasters among other vulnerable groups in the state”, she said.
She urged the general public to be supportive and assist psychiatric patients, who were hospitalized and those in our respective communities, with a view to improving their mental health.
The commissioner further assured of the present administration’s commitments to ensuring effective implementation of the humanitarian affairs and disaster management in the state.

Receiving the food items on behalf of the Management of the Psychiatrist Hospital, Anka, the Executive Chairman, State Hospital Services Management Board, Dr. Bashir Maru, appreciated the ministry for considering the plight of psychiatric patients in the state.
Maru assured of the judicious utilization of the food items provided for the patients.
