Zamfara imposes curfew in Jangebe after violent protest

Following violent protest in the town of Jangebe the Zamfara State Government on Thursday imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the town.

According to the Commissioner of Information, Sulaiman Anka, he said the state government imposed the curfew to prevent breach of peace.

He went on to say that there were strong evidence that the town aid and abet bandits’ activities in the town and neighbouring communities.

Jangebe is the community where 279 Government Girls Science Secondary School  student all girls were abducted last week.

According to reports protest  started after the abducted schoolgirls who regained freedom on Tuesday morning returned home.

The state’s commissioner for information said: “Similarly, there is strong discovered evidence of market activities in the town that aid and abet bandits’ activities in the town and neighbouring communities.

“Consequently, all market activities in the town are hereby suspended until further notice,”

“The state government is poised to ensure safety of lives and properties of its citizens at all cost.

“With this announcement, the Zamfara State Police Command is hereby enjoined to ensure total enforcement,” the statement said.

Also Governor Bello Matawalle has said that he will do anything to bring about peace in the state.

The governor speaking with channels Tv said he can resign if his resigning as a governor will make the people sleep with their two eyes closed.

He went on to say that he is not power hungry.

“I am ready to accept any solution that will bring security to my state.

“I am not intimidated. If I know that my resigning as a governor will make the people sleep with their two eyes closed, I can resign. I am ready to do what will bring security. I am not power-hungry. I have been having a sleepless night to protect the people of Zamfara State.”
