The Community of Tiv Students(CTS) drawn from all tertiary institutions in Taraba have donated relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Bali Local Government Area of the State.
Miss Doom Agwa, the CTS 2021 Beauty Queen (Kumashe) presented the relief materials to IDPs in Bali.
Agwa said they were touched by the hardships being facing by the IDPs and decided to contribute a token to alleviate some of the challenges confronting them.
Agwa, who lamented the sufferings of the IDPs, appealed to the government and public to help the IDPs, especially most of them whom were residing outside the State in various camps.
“We feel bad about what you are passing through, but as students, we don’t have enough to do much in alleviating your sufferings,
“But we do hope that God who knows our hearts will maximize the little we have donated and you will find it helpful as well.
“It is also our prayers that government and some well to do individuals in the State and beyond will also be inspired by our little donation and come to your aid,” she said.
The donated items were presented to IDPs at Tiv Traditional Council Hall in Bali.
The items included five bags of salt, one bag of leather slippers, 10 cottons of indomie noodles, three cottons of seasoning maggi condiments, three bags of bathing soap and two bags of rice.
The CTS Patron, Dr John Ajai, an associate Professor of Mathematics, blamed food shortage on the crisis that pushed the farmers into IDPs camps.
He called on the government at all levels to intensify efforts toward resettling the remaining IDPs to enable them to continue with their farming activities.
Receiving the relief materials on behalf of the IDPs, the Ter Tiv Bali, Zaki David Gbaa, said he was amazed over the students’ show of love and kindness at such a difficult time when the country’s economy was biting hard on individuals.
Gbaa appreciated the efforts of Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba in the resettlement of IDPs in Bali Local Government Area.
According to him, through the governor’s efforts, so many IDPs have returned to their ancestral homes except those in Suntai ward and few other places in the area.
