Tinubu commissions Katampe Road Network, praises Wike for delivering results in Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the newly completed Collector Road CN2, named Emmanuel Ogala Boulevard, and Important Local Street 5 (ILS5) in the Katampe District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing the project as a symbol of his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and effective governance.
The project, a 3.9-kilometre dual carriageway linking Katampe and Mabushi districts to major road corridors in Abuja, was inaugurated on Friday during a ceremony attended by top government officials, lawmakers, traditional leaders and residents.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President said the road project was more than a transportation infrastructure, noting that it represented hope and confidence in the ability of government to fulfil its promises to citizens.
According to Tinubu, the project demonstrates how strategic investments in infrastructure can improve mobility, enhance security, stimulate economic growth and improve the quality of life of residents.

He noted that the road was delivered according to modern engineering standards and equipped with solar-powered streetlights, which have significantly improved visibility and security within the Katampe District.
The President said the illumination of previously dark areas had helped reduce criminal activities while contributing to the revival of Abuja’s nightlife and commercial activities.
“A road like CN2 is more than just concrete and asphalt. It is a symbol of hope and proof that government can deliver on its promises. Through projects like this, we are improving security, mobility and the overall dignity of our people,” he said.
Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his unwavering commitment to transforming Abuja through impactful infrastructure projects.

The President said Wike had justified the confidence reposed in him by delivering critical projects across the capital city, including roads, water infrastructure and housing developments.
“When I entrusted him with the responsibility of transforming Abuja into a true capital city, I did so because of his track record. He has continued to deliver results rather than excuses, and the impact is visible across the Federal Capital Territory,” the President stated.
He urged residents to protect public infrastructure, pay their taxes and ground rents promptly, and refrain from acts of vandalism or misuse of public facilities.
The President specifically warned against converting pedestrian walkways into trading spaces and damaging solar-powered installations provided for public use.
Speaking at the event, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike said the newly commissioned road had already begun attracting significant private sector investments into the Katampe area.

According to him, the project has triggered increased construction activities, estate development and commercial investments while creating employment opportunities for engineers, artisans and labourers.
Wike expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for providing the political support and enabling environment needed to drive the administration’s infrastructure agenda in the FCT.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) engineering team and members of the National Assembly, whom he described as partners in development.
The minister assured residents that the pace of development in the territory would be sustained, announcing that the administration would proceed with the commissioning of a major water supply project in Karu on Monday as part of efforts to improve access to potable water in satellite towns.
“Our commitment to transforming the Federal Capital Territory remains unwavering. We will continue to deliver projects that directly improve the lives of residents and support economic development,” Wike said.

In her vote of thanks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, appreciated community leaders, traditional rulers and security agencies for their support throughout the execution of the project.
She noted that their cooperation played a critical role in ensuring the smooth completion of the road infrastructure.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, presented an overview of the project, explaining that the contract was awarded in November 2025 as part of the FCT Administration’s programme to expand and modernise infrastructure across the capital city.
He disclosed that the road consists of a six-lane dual carriageway with two driving lanes and a parking lane on each side, separated by a two-metre median.
Dauda said the project also includes underground stormwater drainage systems, water supply infrastructure, sewer networks, telecommunications ducts, solar-powered streetlights, pedestrian walkways and landscaped green areas.
According to him, the road is expected to accelerate urban development in Katampe District, reduce travel time, improve security and enhance connectivity between Katampe and neighbouring districts such as Mabushi, Jahi and Maitama.
He added that the construction process generated direct and indirect employment opportunities for many Nigerians while contributing to economic activity within the territory.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of China Geo-Engineering Construction (CGC), Mr. Lv Haiming, whose company executed the project, said the road was completed within seven months in line with the contractual timeline.
He thanked the Federal Government, the FCT Administration and residents of the area for their support during the execution of the project.
Haiming stated that the company prioritised the employment and training of Nigerian workers throughout the construction period, providing them with practical engineering experience and skills.
The commissioning of the Katampe road network forms part of the Federal Government’s broader infrastructure development programme aimed at improving transportation, enhancing urban connectivity and driving economic growth within the Federal Capital Territory.
