2027: Uduehi urges women to back credible candidates

Dr Esther Uduehi has urged Nigerian women to unite and support credible female candidates in the 2027 general elections to improve women’s representation in leadership positions and governance structures nationwide.

Uduehi, Founder and Chairperson, Board of Trustees of the League of Women Voters of Nigeria, told the News Agency of Nigeria on the sidelines of her book’s public presentation in Abuja.

She said women must look beyond individual interests and support candidates capable of making meaningful impacts, advancing inclusive governance and creating more opportunities for women to participate effectively in leadership.

“I will encourage the women that they should go all out now and support their women, especially, not just any woman.

“Support those women they feel can come and make an impact and help to bring out more women.”

Uduehi, while encouraging women to participate actively in politics, said determination remained key to overcoming barriers, challenging limitations and achieving success in public service and other endeavours nationwide.

“There’s never a limit to where you can go in life. You have to be determined. And if you are determined, let nothing stop you. Let no border hinder you,” she said.

She added that breaking barriers should not be a personal achievement alone but should inspire others, open opportunities and create pathways for more people to succeed and thrive.

“Crossing the border is not for you alone. It’s for those around you. You can always carry people along,” she said.

On women’s political participation after decades of advocacy, Uduehi said Nigerian women had not yet attained the level of representation they deserved in elective and appointive positions.

“We haven’t reached where we should be politically wise. We are not happy that we haven’t, but with the awareness being created by all of you, we will get there,” she said. (NAN)
