2nd Niger Delta Games: Imo hold Bayelsa to 2-2 draw

Team Imo and Team Bayelsa played out a 2–2 draw in their opening fixture yesterday, February 20, 2026.

 

It was a tough and entertaining encounter that could have gone either way.

 

Ifeanyi Nnorom fired Team Imo ahead in 41st minute but Team Bayelsa fought back with Ibomoh Solomon leveling scores in the second half. Victor Williams fired a stunning 25-yards strike to put Team Bayelsa in front at 2-1.

Chigozirim Anamelechi came to rescue of Team Imo after converting a penalty in the 76th minute to end the encounter at 2–2.

 

In his post match interview Coach Ramson Madu admitted that it was a tough match for both teams and it outcome was fair to the teams.

 

“Both teams played with heart and showed great quality,” said Imo coach Ramson Madu. “A 2–2 draw was a fair reflection of the game.”

 

In his own response, Coach Okiki Mosampa, hailed his players for their resolute in a very competitive match.

 

““The boys gave their all, and the screening exercise has ensured only genuine talents are on the pitch. The match was competitive, and the fans got to see football at its best.”
