Former caretaker chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday handed over the new national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

The APC concluded its long-awaited national convention last Saturday, in which all the chairmanship aspirants stepped down for the former governor of Nasarawa State, Adamu to emerge as consensus Chairman.

Handing over to his successor, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, who also functioned during his tenure as the APC caretaker chairman, formally handed over the national headquarters of the APC to his successor, Adamu, in Abuja.

Buni recalled that all the positions of the National Working Committee/Excos were conducted with consensus/unopposed modules.

Congratulating the new National Working Committee (NWC), he urged the newly elected party leaders to build on the gains attained during his tenure.

In a press statement signed as the spokesman of the Yobe governor, Mohammed Mamman, in Damaturu, the state capital, Buni emphasised the need for teamwork, especially as Nigeria approaches another round of the general election.

The former caretaker chairman said with a population of over 41 million registered members, APC can win the 2023 general elections.

Responding, incoming chairman, Adamu, commended the Yobe helmsman for resuscitating the party from what he called “the brink of collapse”.

“We will strive to build on your excellent achievements and will from time to time seek your advice on vital and important issues for the party to remain strong, united, and progressive,” Adamu said.

He called for support from members of the NWC for the party to succeed “especially as we approach the 2023 election”.

Adamu said he could not do the task of piloting the party alone, adding, “l will maintain an open-door policy but expect loyalty from members as we will not condone division.”
