Following the protest by parents of the abducted College of forestry in Kaduna, the House of Representatives has intervened directing its special committee on security matters to action on the matter
The Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila who had earlier detailed three standing committee chairmen to address the protesters assured that the plight of the parents would be addressed by parliament
The parents claimed that the nation had abandoned them to their plight, a notion which the House punctured by immediately referring the matter to the special committee on security for further action
Meanwhile, during the protest to the National Assembly in the early hours of today, the parents of 29 Abducted students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka in Kaduna State, called on the federal government to take immediate action to release their children who have been captured by unknown gunmen in the state.
The protesters were seen with placards with the inscription “Release our children”. “Bring back our children, till everyone is free, no one is free” gathered at the main gate of the National Assembly complex to express their anger to the parliamentarians were however denied access.
The protesters led by Abdullahi Usman told newsmen that came to the National Assembly to prompt the lawmakers to prevail on the security agencies to rescue their children who have been held captive by bandits for almost two months
“We are here to appeal to the NASS to help us intervene to release our children from the kidnappers. Now they have spent 55 days in captivity and we are still counting. There is no hope. Kaduna State government said they cannot do anything. Even the Ministry of Environment which supervises the team are not doing anything. The Director-General of the school is not doing anything. Even the Minister, he even traveled. He traveled to America to spend Sallah with his family.” Usman said
“It will be recalled that 39 students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka, Kaduna were kidnapped on 11 March 2021. 10 have been released and 29 others still held captive by their captors. Today, we the parents and student Union Government of the institution decided to take our protest to the representatives of the people asking for the immediate release of the remaining students and other students who are still held by kidnappers across the country”, he concluded.
