Abuja roads projects hit 98% completion, Wike says it’s promise kept

By Ben Adoga, Abuja

Ahead of the May 29 anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s one year in office, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said major road construction projects in the nation’s capital have hit a 98 percent level of completion.

The President is expected to commission major road projects embarked upon by the FCT Administration under the leadership of the FCT Minister.

Wike, who embarked on a tour of seven road construction projects at the weekend, expressed satisfaction with the stages of completion.

He said it’s already “a promise made and a promise kept” as Nigerians and Abuja residents begin to experience President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda for road infrastructure.

Wike visited sites starting from Area 11 to the Durumi construction site and Gudu interchange where construction work and road diversion are complete, except for the street lighting.

The contractor said the work had reached 98 per cent completion. He said that in a matter of days, they would round off the project. When asked if they had any financial constraints in the course of their job, the contractor said, “None at all.”

The minister later proceeded to the Power House Round About and Interchange towards the ECOWAS Secretariat and Villa on the other side as well as the Vice President’s official residence. The project, ThisNigeria gathered, is at the completion level at both places.

At the Ministry of Finances, CBN flank, the National Hospital, and the Jabi-Utako axis, work is also in significant progress.

Speaking with journalists during the tour at the weekend, Wike said, “We are very impressed. We are fully satisfied. This is a promise made and a promise kept. You are aware that we promised Abuja residents that by the grace of God, we will have a lot of projects for Mr. President to inaugurate.

“We have been to Southern Parkway which is being done by SETRACO, and it’s almost 98 per cent ready. We have also been to OSEX which is being done by CGC. You would agree with me that the place is beautiful, the landscape is wonderful, and it’s almost 98 per cent completed too. At the VP’s residence, it’s just finishing touches that are left.

“From there, we went to B6, B12 which they have also said would be ready for commissioning and now it is 99 per cent ready. I want to thank all the companies for keeping to their words,” Wike said.

The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Shehu Ahmad, explained that the completion of the roads would put an end to incessant traffic congestion in the city centre.

“This is an Arterial road; the Shehu Shagari Way, the one that is in front of Police Headquarters, down to Transcorp Hilton, and connects to Ring Road 1, which crosses over to Katampe,” he said.

One of the contractors gave his commitment to finish on schedule, saying:” We are very much on course. Everything will be completed as promised and this will be commissioned on the date that you gave us. We will be ready, everything will be done.

“By next week, we will finish all the Asphalt work, then the marking. Everything will be completed before the commissioning day,” the contractor assured.
