Afenifere hails Operation Kosaye, applauds IG, Abiodun, Sanwo-Olu over anti-kidnapping offensive

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Rilwan Olatunji Disu, Governors Dapo Abiodun and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as well as the Commissioners of Police in Lagos and Ogun states.

The group praised them for their roles in the ongoing security crackdown on kidnappers and bandits operating along the Sagamu-Ore corridor.

The commendation was contained in a letter released on Tuesday on behalf of Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti, and signed by the group’s National Organising Secretary, Abagun Omololu.

According to the organisation, the coordinated security efforts have helped restore public confidence and significantly curtailed criminal activities along the once-troubled highway corridor.

Afenifere described the initiative as a reflection of effective leadership, professional policing and strong collaboration between Lagos and Ogun states, noting that the support provided by both state governments had enhanced the capacity of security agencies to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.

The group also praised IGP Disu for providing strategic leadership and promoting intelligence-driven policing, which it said has strengthened the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force in tackling organised crime.

Special recognition was given to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Olubode Ojajuni, whose understanding of the operational terrain, according to Afenifere, demonstrated the critical role of local intelligence in combating criminal networks.

It further acknowledged the contribution of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, saying the deployment of specialised equipment, logistics and operational assets played a significant role in the success of the joint security operation.

Reaffirming its backing for sustained security operations across the South-West, Afenifere declared that kidnappers, bandits and other violent criminals would find no refuge in Yorubaland.

“The message is unequivocal: ‘KOSAYE’—there is no place for evil in Yorubaland. Those who seek to threaten the peace, security and prosperity of our people will continue to face the full weight of the law,” the statement said.

The organisation also expressed appreciation to security agencies and political leaders for what it described as their courage, dedication and commitment to protecting lives and property.

Operation Kosaye, a joint security initiative launched by the Lagos and Ogun State Police Commands, targets kidnapping syndicates, armed robbery gangs and other violent criminal groups operating within forests and border communities linking the two states.

Named after the Yoruba expression meaning “there is no hiding place,” the operation was introduced to dismantle criminal hideouts and improve security along the interstate corridor.

Security authorities said the operation has so far resulted in the arrest of 88 suspects, the rescue of five kidnapped victims, the recovery of arms and ammunition, and the killing of four suspected kidnappers during separate encounters with operatives.
