Africa Taekwondo Championship: Team Nigeria return with seven medals

The Nigeria team to the Africa Taekwondo Championship in Bamako Mali, ended the championship on an impressive note, winning three gold, one silver, and three bronze medals.
Ability Mathew Udom ( Para), Haruna Usman (Poomse) and Aderibigbe Faridah ( Kyorugi Sparing accounted for the three gold medals while Joel Jordan, Chidinma Okoko and Salaudeen Abdulazeez got the three bronze medals . The only silver medal Nigeria won came from the combined efforts of Abdulafeez and Faridah in Poomse.
Reacting to the performance of the team, President. Of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Ms Temitayo Kuburat Popoola, said the team’s remarkable performance reflects the dedication, hard work and resilience of the athletes, coaches and support personnel who represented Nigeria with distinction on the Continental stage.
The President, board members and the entire management of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation have in a statement, congratulated the successful athletes and the technical crew for their exceptional performance which has once again demonstrated Nigeria’s growing strength in African Taekwondo.
The Federation also expressed its’ appreciation to the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Stakeholders and supporters whose contributions played a significant role in the team’s success.
“The achievement serves as a motivation for the Ms Temitayo Kuburat Popoola led Taekwondo Federation,” it concludes.
Nigeria went to the four-day championship with 11 athletes and two coaches and won 7 medals.
The team is expected back in the country today on board Asky airlines at 6 pm Nigeria time.
