Air Peace has offered lawyer and human rights activist, Inibehe Effiong, a 25 per cent discount on a one-way domestic ticket following a delayed Lagos-Enugu flight, in compliance with a directive by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority.
Effiong disclosed this in a Wednesday post on X, sharing an email from the airline’s call centre confirming the compensation for the disruption of flight P47100 on September 21, 2026.
In the email to him, as well as other passengers, Air Peace apologised for the disruption and said the discounted ticket, excluding taxes, was approved to compensate them for the inconvenience caused.
“To claim the ticket, please send an email to callcenter@flyairpeace.com with your old booking reference, scanned copy of your travel passport, and details of your new flight itinerary (route, date and time),” the airline stated.
The offer, according to the airline, is valid for six months from the date of the email, excluding the period between December 15, 2026 and January 15, 2027.
The compensation followed a directive by the NCAA after a preliminary investigation found that Air Peace had sent affected passengers an incorrect notification ahead of the Lagos-Enugu flight, which was scheduled to depart at 6:45am on September 21.
Effiong had said he arrived at Terminal One of the Murtala Muhammed Airport at about 5:50am for the flight but was asked to wait with other passengers before the departure was eventually delayed until 4:50pm.
He said the disruption caused him to miss a scheduled court appearance in Enugu State.
The NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, said the delay was linked to a ripple effect from an earlier disruption on Sunday night and directed Air Peace to compensate the affected passengers in line with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.
Reacting to the compensation, Effiong said the offer did not resolve what he described as the airline’s broader service concerns.
“This modest effort by Air Peace to assuage me and other aggrieved passengers should not detract from the fundamental issue, namely: the perennial lackluster, arrogant and frustrating attitude of the company,” he said.
Effiong, however, commended the NCAA’s response to the incident and called for stronger regulations to protect the rights of air passengers.
“While the swift response of Mike Achimugu and NCAA in this case are commendable, there is no doubt that we need a stiffer and stronger regulatory framework in the aviation industry to protect the rights of air passengers,” he said.
