President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has expressed confidence that Nigeria will soon overcome its security challenges, assuring citizens that the prevailing wave of violence and fear will not endure.
Akpabio made this declaration on Sunday in his Easter message at the Ikot Ekpene Field Major Convention of The Apostolic Church, Ikot Obong Edong, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media/Communication, Anietie Ekong, the Senate President acknowledged the widespread grief caused by insecurity, noting that many Nigerian families have suffered painful losses.
He said, “Across our country, many families are passing through moments of grief and loss. Some have lost loved ones in the line of duty—our brave men and women in uniform who daily put their lives on the line to defend our nation.
“Others have lost fathers, mothers, children and friends in homes, places of worship, markets, farms and workplaces as Nigeria continues to confront this painful challenge.”
Akpabio condoled with victims and their families, assuring them that the nation shares in their pain and honours the sacrifices of those who have lost their lives.
“We mourn with you, pray for you, and honour the memory of those whose lives have been cut short. Their sacrifices can never be forgotten,” he said.
Projecting hope, the Senate President stressed that the Easter message reflects triumph over adversity, expressing the belief that Nigeria will ultimately defeat insecurity, evil and fear.
“Just as the resurrection symbolises complete victory, I believe Nigeria will soon write its own story of triumph over insecurity,” he stated.
He urged Nigerians to embrace unity, compassion and solidarity, while rejecting hatred and division, adding that the season calls for renewed faith in God and the country’s future.
“Easter reminds us that darkness never has the final word and that joy comes after moments of pain. We must remain united as one people and hold firmly to hope,” he added.
In his homily, the Field Superintendent of The Apostolic Church and host of the convention, Dr E.O Akpan, expressed optimism that sustained prayers would usher in peace and development across the country.
