The governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in Anambra State, Afamefuna Ezenwafor, has donated nine fully furnished houses to widows across different villages in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area.
Ezenwafor, who also leads the Afamation Movement, a non-governmental organisation, said the gesture was his way of practising “practical Christianity.”
He explained that the initiative was born out of his conviction that accurate service to God is measured in service to humanity.
He stated that his long-term goal was to construct 50 houses within 10 years for widows and vulnerable families, noting that 10 had already been completed.
The latest nine beneficiaries hailed from villages such as Agba, Nkono, Ula, Okpo, Ihuokpala, Umuchi, Abogwume, Eziagulu, and Umuchiana.
The widows, many of them overwhelmed with tears, described the gift as life-changing, with some breaking into songs and dance during the handover.
Ezenwafor commended his younger brother, Nze Osita Ezenwafor of the Ositadimma Care Foundation, for providing financial backing. Meanwhile, Donald Amamgbo, the ADC candidate in the last senatorial by-election, donated ₦1 million to two of the widows.
State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, described the gesture as complementing Governor Charles Soludo’s advocacy for public-private partnerships in community development.
He urged other wealthy individuals to follow the example rather than “engaging in needless rancour.”
The widows, speaking through Mrs. Tochukwu Iloh and Mrs. Chika Nwosu, prayed for divine blessings on Ezenwafor and his family, describing him as “a man remembered by heaven to wipe tears.”
