Anger in Anambra as abducted LP lawmaker found dead

There was anger and uncertainty in Anambra state yesterday morning as the corpse of the kidnapped Labour Party (LP) lawmaker representing Onitsha-North state constituency 11 in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Justice Azuka was found in the Commercial town of Onitsha.
It was gathered that the remains of the  lawmaker were recovered in the Upper-Iweka area of Onitsha.
Hon. Azuka was kidnapped on December 24, 2024  at about 9pm at Ugwunakpamkpa, Inland Town, Onitsha on his way back home.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Tochukwu Ikenga a Superintendent (SP), when contacted confirmed the incident, said: “Our men are recovering the corpse now. And I think they should be on their way now bringing the corpse here at state police headquarters. We will break the news as soon as the corpse arrives here”, he said.
On how the lawmaker’s body was found, Ikenga said, “I want my CP (Commissioner of Police) himself to speak on it. Just wait, he will brief the press on it “
“In the early hours of today, 6/2/2025 at the second niger bridge, the Joint Security team composed of Police and AVG Operatives on a mission to rescue abducted Hon. Azuka, Honourable State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North, regrettably found his lifeless body at the scene.”
“As soon as I get more details, I will keep you updated, as the joint security team have taken over the scene and operation is ongoing for the possible arrest of the suspects involved, please,” he said.
Recall that the dead lawmaker’s personal vehicle was recovered at the same Upper Iweka a few days after he was kidnapped.
Anambra State has been under siege of kidnappers, armed robbers and cultists as well as land grabbers whose activities have caused violent crimes that led to several deaths and many others declared missing till date.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) led government of Prof. Charles Soludo three weeks ago launched Operation Udo Ga Achi with the signing of the Agunaechemba state security law 2025.
