Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, has called for a review of security laws so as to ensure that responsible Nigerians have the right to arm themselves.
He made this appeal to the government to safeguard people’s lives while addressing newsmen on Friday.
“Right now, the policy (on licensing) we have is at the local government and state levels where Dane guns and double-barrelled guns are licensed; there is no way even pump action can stand AK 47,” he said, clearly pointing out that criminal activities will reduce if bandits know that host communities would match them fire for fire.
