Army arrests masked officer for asking colleagues to be neutral

Lance Corporal Harrison Friday has been arrested by the Nigerian Army.

In a video uploaded on social media last week, a masked soldier had appealed to his colleagues to understand that #EndSARS protesters were fighting for a better country and that they should be supported by all Nigerians including the military.

“The fight the civilians are fighting is our fight, do not let them (the Nigerian government) use us,” he said.

However, the Nigerian Army has taken to Twitter to announce the arrest of the corporal saying that he has been arrested for cybercrime.

It tweeted, “The hooded soldier hiding behind the mask to commit cybercrimes has been apprehended in the ongoing cyber operations in support of crocodile smile. Rest assured cybercriminals have no hiding place.”

Meanwhile, soldiers attached to the 81 Division have been accused of killing protesters at the Lekki tollgate on Tuesday night, an allegation that the army has denied.

The attack on protesters has sparked reprisals across the state with irate youths burning down several government facilities and even the home of Lagos State Governor’s mother while attacking the palace of the Oba of Lagos.
