Army varsity inaugurates first set of disaster response course

The Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) in Borno has inaugurated its first set of Disaster Response and Management Course.
A statement on Friday in Maiduguri by the Public Relations Officer, Mr Hassan Rabiu, said the maiden course is starting with 18 students from military, paramilitary and MDAs.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony at the Tukur Buratai Institute for War and Peace (TBIWP), the Vice Chancellor of NAUB, Prof. Kyari Mohammed, stressed the importance of preparing for disaster at all time.
Mohammed said the institute was also in talks with government agencies, particularly the Borno Government that showed interest in some of its programmes, on stabilisation, post conflict and peace building in areas liberated.

He assured that the institute would strive to be a centre of excellence in research through advocacy, quality research and policy.
According to him, relevant courses will be introduced alongside those in existence like Counter Terrorism, Cyber Security, Counter Insurgency and Strategic Communication.
The Director Training of TBIWP, Maj.-Gen A.B Adamu, said the course would equip participants with the requisite knowledge required to fight disaster which remain part of human activities that require proper training.
