The Chairman of Gwamatsawa Development Association, Kontagora, Alhaji Yahaya Danburan, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for assenting to the bill to upgrade the Federal College of Education, Kontagora Niger, to University of Education.
Buhari assented to a bill to establish the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, Niger, recently.
The bill was sponsored by the Senator Representing Niger North, Sen. Aliyu Abdullahi.
With the president’s assent, it repeals the law establishing Federal College of Education Kontagora, upgrading it to the status of a university.
Danburan, said in Kontagora yesterday that the conversion would add education value in the North Central part of Nigeria.
He explained that the creation of the university would further resolve the challenge of shortage of well-trained teachers in the country.
“We were all excited with the emergence of another tertiary institution in Niger, following the signing into law of the Bill for the upgrading of the Federal College of Education Kontagora into a University of Education by President Buhari.
“This is another cheering news for the government and people of Niger.
“We equally appreciate the useful contribution of Sen. Aliyu Abdullahi for his doggedness in pursuing the bill and lobbying his colleagues.
“All Federal legislators from Niger, the leadership of the National Assembly, particularly Senate President Ahmad Lawan, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, and all legislators for the various roles they played in ensuring that the law was passed and sent to the president for assent.
