Former governor of Cross River State and leader of the People’s Democratic Party in the state Senator Liyel Imoke says the recent defection of the state governor to the APC is a divine intervention.
Senator Imoke made this known in during the party’s stakeholders meeting in Calabar.
The meeting was called by leaders of the party in the state to appraise the recent political developments in the state.
Two serving senators, five house of representatives members and members of the state assembly from the party attended the meeting.
Imoke said: “I have pondered about the future of Cross River State for years but today I believe there is a divine intervention.
“We asked no one to leave and they left so with that I think we have sent the hand of God”, Imoke said.
He decried the management of the party in recent years and insisted that through out his time as governor, the party has always been a democratic party.
“At no point in time did we have a party lead by one man, one family, not responsible and able to carry every one along, it’s very painful because power came from the people.
“We had leaders at every level and they had a level of responsibility.

He added the party will be handed over to the youths in 2023.
“We need a generational shift and God forbid that the next governor will be a food on the table governor”, he added.
On his part, Efiok Cobham the caretaker chairman of the party said the party is focused and is committed to bringing back the core values that define the PDP.
He said the party is not in a hurry to hand over the state to the APC.
He also said the party will get back it’s Secretariat and what is happening at the Secretariat has let the world know the quality and character of those we call leaders.
