Defection : Gov Umahi is on his own- Ebonyi PDP NASS Caucus

By Kassim Omomia
National Assembly members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from Ebonyi state have distanced themselves from the defection of the State Governor David Umahi from the PDP, to the All Progressives People Congress, APC.
The lawmakers disclosed at a media briefing in Abuja, that not a single member of the Ebonyi State PDP caucus of the National Assembly is defecting with the governor to the APC
“For the sake of clarity , we wish to state that not a single member of the Ebonyi State PDP caucus of the National Assembly is defecting to the APC: The three Distinguished Senators and Five House of Representatives members remain proud card- carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the platform under which we contested and won elections in 2019,” Chief Sam Egwu, leader of the group said
The group expressed disappointment in the manner Governor Umahi dumped the party, even though they support the South East presidency bid, but noted further that it was unwise, indecent and impolitic for the governor to give ultimatums and conditionalities in a bid to secure zoning.
The Caucus admitted that it was the governor’s right to join any political association but he must be mindful of the Supreme Court decision that candidates are products of political parties and are not at liberty , as political office holders, to migrate from one political platform to another , particularly when there is no division or crisis in their party
They however, thanked the leadership of the party for dissolving the ward, local government, state and zonal structures of the party in the state and appointing a caretaker Committee.
Other members of the caucus present at the media briefing include, Senators Obinna Ogba, Mike Nnachi. Others are Honourables: Sylvester Ogbaga, Igariwey Enwo, Chukwuma Nwazunku. Also present were, Honourables Edwin Anayo and Livinus Makwe
