The Government of United Kingdom is insisting that 60 million Pounds it will soon repatriate of Nigeria’s looted funds, be deployed to legacy projects that would have direct impact on the common people.
Deputy Executive Director of African Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), Mr Leo Atakpu stated this at a two day workshop on “Edo State Integrity and Accountability Strategy,” organized by his organization in Benin City.
He said, already discussions have reached advanced stage, between Nigerian Government and the UK Government on one hand and the Federal Government and the Delta State Government, on the other, for the UK to repatriate the 60million pounds Ibori funds.
“The Federal Government is to collect the 30 percent of the repatriated fund. While the awaited Abacha 300 million dollars expected from Ireland is agreed to be used for the three legacy projects which are the 2nd Niger Bridge, the Lagos- Ibadan Express Way and the Abuja- Kaduna Road,’ he stated.
On a $900,000 allegedly looted by former Bayelsa Governor he said “While the Diepreye Alamieyeseigha $900,000 loot expected from the USA was initially agreed to be used for Judges’ Quarters, it was later agreed to be used for Primary Health facilities, as that will have direct impact on common people”.
