
The Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, has urged media practitioners to support the fight against insecurity through effective crime reporting.
Bagudu made the call at the opening of a two-day training on new media etiquette on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Babale Umar-Yauri, Bagudu called for a joint stakeholder action against crime and insecurity.
He urged new media practitioners to expose hideouts of criminals and provide credible intelligence that would further equip security agencies to work.
”Peace is impossible to achieve without tackling insecurity, violence, and other forms of crime.
”The new media is part of the instruments that shape the perception of people in modern society.
”So, this training is to enable us to put new media technology to good use in the interest of the society,” he said.
The governor stated that the new media could become a veritable tool to fight crime if used professionally, responsibly, and positively.
”Let us endeavor to use the gadgets made available to us through technology to support our society.
”We need more concerted efforts by all stakeholders to address the challenges of insecurity in the land,” he said.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Information and Culture, Hajiya Rakiya Tanko-Ayuba, said the training was intended to enhance the capacities of new media practitioners in the state.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Garba Hamisu-Zuru, the commissioner said that participants would be trained on the positive uses of social media.
She said that the state government was committed to training and retraining media practitioners.
”We must use social media to tackle insecurity, unite our people and promote development.
”We also want to see new media people promoting development and adhering to the ethics of Journalism,” she said.
In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Alhaji Aliyu Bandado-Argungu, said the training would promote sound and objective dissemination of information.
”The new media have become a force to reckon with, it has become an indispensable information dissemination channel.

”So, we need to utilize the opportunities that come with this development and use it to the advantage of the society,” he said.
He urged the participants to take the training seriously to ensure capacity enhancement.
”We wholeheartedly thank the governor for providing the resources that made this training possible,” he said.
