The presidential campaign rally of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) hit rocky waters due to a strange technical glitch in Bauchi.
Top dignitaries of the party attended the rally.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who was present, went around the podium and waved to the crowd, and left without speaking to the mam- moth crowd that gathered in support of his government.
Buhari who could not address the mammoth crowd that gathered at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa stadium, together with the Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu, just presented the flag to the presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and governorship candidate of the APC in Bau- chi State, Sadique Abubakar.
However, the presidential candidate of the APC, Tinubu as well as the National Chairman of them APC could not deliver their message when they mounted the podium as the microphones went off.
The technical crew attempted to bring back the sound system, but it proved difficult.
The atmosphere was looking frustrating as no one among the party members could explain the reasons behind the technical flops.
There was total anguish reading the facial expression of the leaders on the podium.
Floods: 2.4 million displaced in 2022, says NEMA
The President then led other dignitaries down the podium into the waiting cars and drove out of the stadium to the airport without formally closing the rally with the usual prayers and for some minutes, the party had to rely on flutes while the presidential candidate was seen dancing to the admiration of party faithful and supporters who had come from far and near to enjoy the occasion.
*N’ East benefitted more In Buhari’s government- Lawan
However, speaking earlier before the technical glitch, Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, told Nigerians that the people of the North-East government of President Muhammadu Buhari than other zones in the country.
Lawan stated this at the APC rally in Bauchi, according to a statement by his media aide, Ola Awoniyi.
He said, “Mr. President (Buhari), we in the North-East are probably the most beneficiaries of your administration.
“We were the first to start enjoying your administration more than any other part of Nigeria because Boko Haram was technically defeated immediately you came into office.
“You appointed our son, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yu- suf Buratai, as the Chief of Army Staff, and of course Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.
“They did so well that your government provided the security that we are enjoying today. The North-East, from 2015 particularly, enjoyed the most important appointments in your administration. That is to say that you are a north easterner. This crowd is a testimony. Everywhere you go, it is Buhari, in the North-East.”
The Senate President took a swipe again at the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) alleging that while the party was in power, it abandoned the people in the northeast to Boko Haram insurgency.
Lawan said it was not until President Muham- madu Buhari came into power that the region was eventually liberated from the clutches of Boko Haram.
The Senate President thanked President Bu- hari for the many benefits which the northeast enjoyed from his government.
He said: “Mr President, the PDP abandoned the northeast to Boko Haram, to the insurgency.
“PDP abandoned us until you came into office. In 2015, when you were sworn in, your first task was to liberate us. Thank you very much that you did.
Lawan made a similar accusation about two weeks ago at a campaign rally in Yobe when he blasted PDP to have allowed the Boko Haram insurgency to fester while it was in power.
He criticised PDP to have allegedly denied the existence of Boko Haram and allowing the in- surgency to blossom instead of doing the need- ful and curbing the menace.
