Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani, the former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general election in Adamawa State, donated N50m to the flood victims in Borno State yesterday.

She said her intervention was part of serving humanity and giving hope to the victims.

Binani announced the donation when she led a sympathy delegation of party leaders, supporters, and well-wishers to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in Maiduguri.

She said, “We pray that such calamity would never befall anyone again, wherever we are. We all know through history that the people of Borno State have a high capacity for resilience. We pray to Almighty Allah to make them overcome this tragedy as quickly as possible.

“We also pray to God to have mercy on those that have lost their lives, grant them Aljanna Firdaus, and comfort their families and loved ones.”

Responding, Governor Zulum thanked Binani for making it to Maiduguri despite bad weather that prevented her from landing on Monday.

He said, “Let me inform you that Binani took a flight to Maiduguri on Monday, but they couldn’t land because of bad weather, so they returned to Abuja.

“On noticing what had happened, I called her and said there was no need for you to come back again, but she said Borno was home to her. Therefore, she must be present to commiserate with us. That shows the level of fraternity between her and the good people of Borno State.

“You donated a whopping sum of N50m, and be assured that the government of Borno State, under my distinguished leadership, shall ensure judicious utilization of the fund.

“Yesterday, we constituted a committee, and amongst the members, we have representatives of ICPC and EFCC to ensure the funds get to the right individuals.

“For me, Senator Binani is not just a political ally but also a sister to me. Many here know Dr Chiroma, and Senator Binani is her mother. So, on this note, let me once again welcome you. Thank you for the N50m donation coming from an individual, not the government.”

Binani was accompanied by the first female Permanent Secretary in the defunct Gongola State and immediate past Chairman of NYSC Board, Ambassador Fati Balla, her running mate at the 2023 general elections, Titsi Ganama, DG Binani Campaign Organisation, Senator Ahmed Barata, and some APC stalwarts.
