Bosnian police kills alleged shooter of child

A prosecutor on Monday reported that Bosnian police shot a man shortly after the man allegedly shot a child to death.

According to media reports, the man reportedly opened fire on a car in the city of Foca, which lies in the part of Bosnia-Herzegovina populated by ethnic Serbians.

A 10-year-old boy died in that incident. No further details were available about the incident.

According to a report in the Bosnian Serb news agency Srna, the shooter suffered mental problems.

Police tracked down the alleged shooter after he barricaded himself in a building near Foca belonging to forestry officials.

However, he didn’t respond to calls to give himself up and, at one point, reportedly wielded a hand grenade.

The grenade was never detonated. Officers with a special commando unit eventually killed the man.
