BREAKING: Buhari appoints Usman Baba as acting IGP

A Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has been appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari as the acting Inspector-General of Police with immediate effect.

Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.

Baba, who was recently promoted in December, is taking over from Mohammed Adamu.

Adamu is currently in Owerri, Imo State to access the damage done on police and prison facilities by unknown gunmen on Monday.

His tenure was extended by President Buhari for three months on February 4, out of which he has spent 2 months and three days.

Usman Baba’s appointment is subject to the approval of the Council of State meeting expected to convene soon.
