Don’t sell houses, land to bandits, traditional rulers caution

The Emirs of Katsina and Daura, Alhaji Abdulmumini Usman and Alhaji Faruk Umar-Farouk respectively, have cautioned against selling houses or issuing plots of land to people with unknown identities.

Usman, while making the plea on behalf of Faruk, told the Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari, and the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, That such people could be bandits.

The Emirs spoke during a Town Hall Consultative Meeting on Security Matters in Katsina on Tuesday.

The traditional rulers said the bandits in their numbers were leaving the forests to towns and cities in Katsina State to buy plots of land and houses so as to live among the people.

The Emirs therefore urged the state government and property developers to be wary of those they were issuing land papers to or selling houses to.

“Governments or people who want to sell land or houses must scrutinize the prospective buyers before selling the property to them.”

Usman went on to contend that the issue of amnesty or dialogue with the bandits should not arise “because they don’t value human life.”

The Emir said the two emirates of Katsina and Daura have directed their District and Village Heads to monitor any suspected movements around their domain.
