President Muhammadu Buhari, the new Service Chiefs, Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff, Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff and AVM Isiaka Amao, Chief of Air Staff and others are currently discoursing Nigeria’s security situation at the National Security Council.
The National Security Council is expected to look into the insurgency, banditry and other violent crimes that have ravaged the nation.
This National Security Council is holding hours after the release of 279 school girls abducted in Jangebe, Zamfara.
Gunmen abducted the girls from the Government Girls Junior Secondary School in Jangebe, in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara last Friday, but they were released on Tuesday.
The president had earlier expressed joy over the release of the students.
He directed security officials to apprehend all the kidnappers involved and bring them to justice.
In attendance at the meeting were Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari and the Minister of Defence, Retired Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi.
Others were the Ministers of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi; Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, and the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
