Building collapse: Lagos govt demolishes illegal buildings

The Lagos state government has commenced the demolition of illegal buildings in the state.

The move by the government is aimed at averting reoccurring building collapse in the state.

The demolition, which commenced on Wednesday, April 26th, affected buildings in the Banana Island area of the state.

The demolition of the buildings was carried out by officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit and the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority.

Recall that a seven-Storey building under construction, recently collapsed at First Avenue, Banana Island, trapping workers inside who were later rescued.

The exercise was in compliance with the directive of the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu when he visited the scene of the collapse.
