Osun Election: INEC organize training workshop for adhoc staff

Following preparation for the training of ad-hoc personnel for the Osun State Governorship Election scheduled to hold on the 16th of July 2022, The Training of Trainers (ToT) on Election Day Activities has been completed for the 2022 session.

The training which was organized by the Electoral Institute (TEI) for participants who are mainly Headquarters and TEI trainers is required to coordinate and supervise the training of Adhoc personnel across the 30 Local Government Areas in Osun State.

The essence is to upscale the competencies of the trainers and also to update the knowledge base of the Trainers on the Electoral process in line with the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines as approved by the Commission. The objective of the training is that in the end, participants should be able to facilitate and coordinate Electoral Training efficiently and effectively.

The Chair, Board of Electoral Institute (BEI) Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru in his opening remarks urged participants to be forthright and diligent as they prepare to coordinate and facilitate training of Adhoc Staff in preparation for the Osun State Governorship Election. The Chair, BEI described the performance of the Poll Officials at the recently conducted Ekiti State Governorship Election as “Superlative” but urged participants to sustain and improve on the achievements at Osun State and during the training in preparation for the 2023 General Elections.

The Director General, TEI Dr Sa’ad Umar Idris in his welcome address stated that the Institute was well prepared and ready to deliver quality Training on Election Day Activities for Adhoc staff in preparation for the Osun State Governorship Election. He emphasized the need for trainers and coordinators to use the opportunity of the ToT to horn their skills, especially on the use of the BVAS for accreditation of Voters as quality and effective delivery of the training is fundamental to the success of the Osun State Governorship and the 2023 General Elections.

In addition to the Simulation of BVAS, a special session was conducted on INEC-SANS where the importance of security and safety of election officials was emphasised. All the Trainers at the ToT were mandated to DOWNLOAD THE INEC-SANS APPLICATION and were taken through its usage to ensure an effective cascade of same to SPOs, POs/APOs and all other categories of election officials.

Goodwill messages were delivered by Directors present at the ToT, these include Directors, Research and Documentation, Dr Ibrahim Sani,  P&M, Mr Paul Omokore, HRM, Mallam Usman Wase, and G&I Mrs Dorothy Bello.

The Director of Training, Dr Binta Kasim Mohammed took the participants through an overview of the training agenda.
