David Abiye, Dung win Lagos Women Run back-to-back

Running with no 241390, David Abiye Joy, the defending Champion of the annual Lagos Women Run, on Saturday proved her unwillingness to relinguish the crown when she returned in a time of 39::35.21secs to win the 2024 edition of the race and instantly make it back -to-back performance.
Though David Abiye did not equal nor beat the time she recorded last year, she pocketed the cash prize of N1.5m for her feat.
Liliane Nguetsa from Cameroon came 2nd with 40: 02. 54 secs time out and received the sum of #500,000 while Agofure Charity finished 3rd with a time of 47: 09. 64 secs and got the sum of #300,000 which is the 3rd place prize.
The story was not different in the Veteran category, where Janet Dung crossed the finishing line in a time of 47: 45. 82 to earn the 1st position, thereby retaining the title she won in 2023.
She got the sum of #300,000 cash award while Katrine Darie finished second by returning in a time of 52: 56.69 secs to pick up the sum of #200,000 which is the 2nd place prize money for the Veteran category. The 64: 53. 82 secs returned by Otonye Iworima was good enough to give her the 3rd position plus a #100,000 cash award.
The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the DG of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, commended the perfect organisation of the 9th Lagos Women Run describing it as it as the best in terms of organisation, coordination and execution.
He stressed that such is what Lagos State stands for as the centre of excellence, adding that the state will continue to encourage health and wellness for all without being gender biased.
