Chief Priest docked over false information against US Army veteran

A Chief Priest, Chief Peter Chijioke Okaa has been arraigned before the Nnobi Magistrate Court in Anambra state for giving false information to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) against the United States of America, (USA) Army Veteran, Mr Bonaventure Ezekwenna.
Okaa, an indigene of Awuda village, Nnobi community in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state is standing trial before Chief Magistrate Ken Nwoye, was arraigned on Friday on a three-count charge.
According to the three-count charge in the suit sheet with No. Mis/39c/2024 between the Commissioner of Police Vs Chief Peter Chijioke Okaa, the suspect was accused of making a publication which defamed Mr Bonaventure Ezekwenna’s reputation and brought him under public ridicule.
He also issued threats to Mr. Ezekwenna thereby causing him anxiety and in the process gave false information to the police against the applicant.
According to the Charge, Chief Okaa was said to have given false information against Mr Ezekwenna at Zone 13 Ukpo, Command of the Nigeria Police Force sometime last year.
Mr. Okaa who was represented in Court by his counsel, Mrs C. N. Ndife however denied all the three count charges preferred against him.
The Commissioner of Police was represented by Inspector Joseph Ossai who held a brief for the Prosecution counsel from Zone 13 Ukpo police Command, C. P. Nwaezi.
Magistrate Ken Nwoye later granted Chief Okaa bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety who should be a resident within the jurisdiction of the Chief Magistrate Court and who have a verifiable address.
The case was later adjourned to July 11, 2024, for the commencement of the hearing.
