A High Court in Ekiti has restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from changing or substituting the names of candidates for the National and State Assembly elections in the state.
The applicants had filed a suit, marked HAD/89M/2023, before Justice E.B Omotosho, seeking to restrain the PDP, its National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu from changing or substituting their names from the list of candidates for the state’s National and State Assembly elections.
The applicants also sought to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the third defendants in the suit, from “accepting or acting on any application from the PDP, for the substiution of candidates whose names have already been submitted for the National and State Assembly elections in Ekiti.”
After listening to the motion, Justice Omotosho ordered that all parties in the case to maintain status quo pending the hearing of the suit.
The judge also ordered that the copies of the suit, with the originating summons, should be served on the defendants.
Recall that the PDP had suspended seven National Assembly candidates in Ekiti State over alleged anti-party activities.
They include Alhaji Lateef Ajijola (Ekiti Central) and Hon. Funso Ayeni (Ekiti North) as well as House of Representatives candidates, Otunba Yinka Akerele (Ekiti North 1), Hon. Babatunde Ajayi (Ekiti North 2), Lere Olayinka (Ekiti Central 2), Joju Fayose (Ekiti Central 1) and Mrs Emiola Adenike Jennifer (Ekiti South 2),
