The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Justice Muhammad Umar gave the order on Monday, directing that Sowore remain in custody pending the hearing of an application by his new legal team seeking to overturn the decision revoking his bail.
Sowore was present in court and represented by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Olumide Fusika, during Monday’s proceedings.
The court had earlier revoked Sowore’s bail after he failed to appear for a previous hearing, with the prosecution accusing him of deliberately delaying the trial.
Although Sowore had written to the court requesting an adjournment, he did not provide reasons for his absence at the earlier sitting.
In his ruling, Justice Umar ordered that the AAC presidential aspirant be kept at the correctional facility pending the determination of his application challenging the bail revocation order and the bench warrant issued against him.
The judge also dismissed Sowore’s earlier request for his withdrawal from the case over allegations of bias.
The matter was adjourned until June 24 for hearing of the application.
The Department of State Services (DSS) is prosecuting Sowore over allegations of making false claims against President Bola Tinubu in posts shared on his X and Facebook accounts.
