Criticisms as Obi’s plane allegedly grounded in Lagos

Olusegun Olanrewaju
Following an alleged grounding of a plane under the usage of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, yesterday, the Federal Government has come under the sledgehammer of criticisms by all and sundry.
The plane was reportedly being used by Obi and his supporters for campaigns around the country.
Obi was scheduled to be in Ibadan for a campaign rally but was not allowed to fly as the authorities allegedly grounded the plane for ‘regulatory’ reasons.
A statement from the media head of the Obi-Datti campaign, Diran Onifade, confirmed this yesterday, but as of press time, there was no independent or official confirmation of the development.
Onifade said; “The Obidient plane was grounded today by the powers-that-be “for regulatory reasons” only. Please ignore any mischievous rumour. Our massive rally in Ibadan is going on as planned.“
Meanwhile, supporters of Obi, popularly known as ‘Obidients’, were seen on major roads in Ibadan waving banners and clad in the LP’s customised shirts and caps.
Security in and around the venue of the rally, Adamasingba Stadium, was supertight as supporters of the party formed a single queue outside the stadium before being screened into the main event area.
Ecstatic chants, music plays, and spectacular shows wafted in the background as supporters awaited Obi’s arrival with his running mate, Datti.
Party chieftains and the candidates of the LP who had massed at the stadium for the rally from the South-West waited patiently.
Meanwhile, angry supporters and observers took to the social media platform to protest the alleged underground action of the authorities, with most alleging bad faith.

A platform buff, Dave Akanji posted on an angry note, “If they like, let (them) ground all ships and vehicles alongside. We will trek to Ibadan for the rally. Nobody and no force in Nigeria can stop us from taking back our country from the hands of these scavengers by God’s grace. I am ObiDiently ObiDient.”
Another, who simply identified himself as Mr Ray, penned, “They (the) powers-that-be has become very jittery.”
Yet another buff, Jack, tweeted, “Amoebo,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Let them leave our jet jari. Nigeria must be renewed and the new Nigeria must be renewed and the new Nigeria must come, Insha Allah”.
George wrote a scathing anti-government post: “Bad belle. They have suddenly become envious of the real change that’s coming, which they could not offer in their dream.
In the words of a certain majinga amos, “Obidient is the only remedeer Nigeria needs, and nothing can stop it; not even groundedology or whatsoever.”
Uty E posted: “Nothing stopping us. It’s either ObiDati or ObiDati……..No other choice.”
A self-effacing prophet, Sunday Akanbi, stated: “No matter how, obi is not our choice, but Biafra. That’s what the South-East stands for. Obi can’t be president, come 2023. Mark my word.”
Chris Okeke tweeted: “I have marked your empty and selfish words. Obi will be president in 2023. Right-thinking Nigerian youths want Obi.”
In the words of Ilyasu Naziru Buremawa, “Despite being ‘BATMAN’, I am not in support of rights abuse. Every candidate should be given the same level-playing field in terms of rallies and campaigns.
