Customers laments scarce naira currency in Ondo Community

Inspite of the directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria to Commercial Banks to offer both new and old Naira notes to customers in transaction, banks in the Akoko area of Ondo state opened for transactions this morning without money to pay their teeming customers who customers needed cash.

A bank official who spoke in confidence with our reporter on phone said both old and new currencies are not available to dispense to their customers from the Central Bank.

He said that the governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele is not sincere with adherence to Supreme Court judgement.

A customer from Akungba-Akoko, Chief Seriki Awesu said the currency crisis is still bitten harder now that banks are not .getting enough cash liquidity, saying the Point Of Sales (POS) operators are exploiting the situation to cheat them.

He urged Nigerians to bear with the present situation and not take laws into their hands.

A Christian cleric, Pastor Gabriel Agbaje said what we are experiencing presently over the currency saga will soon become a thing of the past.

Agbaje called for fervent prayers to overcome all the challenges.

In Akure, the state capital, some banks were dispensing old currency to teeming customers who milled around the premises, but the amount could not exceed N10,000 per head.

The POS operators who wanted to make brisk business lamented that their businesses had been paralysed because of the Naira crisis.

They decried the situation whereby bank officials refused to give them sufficient money to pay their customers in their respective outlets, asking that’s how many customers will they pay with
just N20,000?
