A kidnapped victim has been rescued alive by operatives of Delta State Police Command while the suspected abductors together with the gang’s armourer are currently in police custody.
ThisNigeria gathered that the kidnapped victim was tied and kept in the boot of the car of abductors before the police operatives came to his rescue.
Sources said that on September 16, 2022, at about 2230 hours, information got to the Divisional Police Officer, Agbarho Police Station in Ughelli North Local Government Area, that some armed hoodlums had stormed the residence of one man (name withheld) along Railway Station Road Agbarho, kidnapped him and drove out of the premises towards the railway.
Consequently, the DPO detailed and led police operatives who went after the hoodlums.
However, the hoodlums on sighting the policemen reportedly fired sporadically at them while the operatives equally responded.
Eventually, as a result of the superior firepower of the police, the hoodlums abandoned the victim and ran into the bush.
Consequently, the victim who was tied and kept in the boot of the car was rescued unhurt by the police while effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing hoodlums.
Confirming the incident, the police public relations officer (PPRO) for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe told newsmen that when the car was searched, 50 rounds of live cartridges were recovered.
In another development, on September 18, 2022, at about 1130 hours, police detectives attached to Agbarho Division, acting on a tip off, arrested one Felix Itoje, aged 32 years, of Mechanic village, Warri-Sapele Road.
During investigation, the suspect confessed to the kidnap of one woman (name withheld) on September 13, 2022.
Acting on the suspect’s confession, one additional suspect and armorer of the gang named Israel Adam, aged 22 years of Uvwiamuge in Agbarho, was arrested and one locally made double barrel gun was recovered.
The police spokesman for the State Command, DSP Bright Edafe affirmed that the suspects are currently in custody while investigation is ongoing.
Also, on September 17, 2022 at about 1100hours, the DPO Issele-uku Division, acting on credible intelligence, that a suspected kidnapper is hibernating somewhere in Issele-uku, detailed operatives to the said hideout and arrested one Onyeka Ozoh, aged 30 years of Ogbe-ofu quarters Issele-uku and recovered a red coloured Toyota Camry without registration number.
The suspect reportedly claimed that he bought the vehicle at Onitsha at the cost of N1,500,000 and that all original documents were with the previous owner.
However, investigations later revealed that the vehicle belongs to a kidnapped victim (name withheld) who was reported abducted on August 20, 2022 at Ozubulu in Anambra State, but released after a ransom was paid and the vehicle taken from him.
The PPRO stated that the suspect will be transferred to Anambra Police Command for further investigation.
