The President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Mr Eze Anaba, has hailed the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for driving what he described as “real and measurable development” across the state.
Speaking in Effurun after a guided tour of significant projects, Anaba said the Editors were particularly impressed by the government’s strategic investments in social protection, public sector reform, and a vast network of road infrastructure — all of which signal a state on the path to sustainable progress.
“From all indications, Governor Oborevwori is not merely making promises; he is implementing impactful policies that touch the lives of ordinary citizens,” Anaba stated.
Highlighting the quality of infrastructure seen during the tour, he noted, “The road networks we visited are impressive and well-suited to the environment. In other places, we’ve seen roads and schools collapse within weeks of construction, but that’s not the case here.”
He added, “Delta is witnessing extensive development — from schools and roads to flyover bridges. It is imposing. We commend the Delta State Government and hope this momentum continues for the benefit of the people. Government should be felt, and that is what we are seeing here — meaningful development.”
Also lending his voice, renowned journalist and former presidential spokesman Dr Reuben Abati lauded the Oborevwori administration for reviving technical education in the state.
“I was particularly impressed to see that Technical Colleges are functioning again in Delta. This is vital for rebuilding middle-level workforce in Nigeria,” he said.
Abati noted that Nigeria had suffered a decline in technical institutions for decades but observed that Delta State was now reversing the trend with operational colleges in several locations.
The inspection team also visited the Southern Delta University campus at Orerokpe, Ezesi Road in Okpe Kingdom, and the Technical College in Omadino.
Commenting on the impact of the projects, Abati said many Nigerians, particularly those in Abuja and Lagos, were often unaware of actual developments in their home states.
“People who live far from their home states tend to speak based on hearsay. However, when you get on the ground, as we did, you can see visible progress. The government must do more to publicise its achievements,” he advised.
Reflecting on the significance of Governor Oborevwori’s two years in office, Abati urged him to sustain his focus on inclusive governance.
“One major criticism of some elected officials is the concentration of development in their hometowns. However, in Delta, from what I’ve seen — from the north to the central and southern parts — there is a noticeable spread of projects. This is commendable,” he said.
Abati concluded with words of encouragement, “The Governor is delivering on the people’s mandate. The only reward for hard work is more work. I urge him to stay the course and do even more.”
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, welcomed the editors and emphasised the importance of an objective assessment of government performance.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure and improving the lives of Deltans.
The inspection tour covered key project sites, including the Okpanam-Ibusa Bypass Road, sections of the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, the Julius Berger-built flyovers at the PTI Junction and DSC Roundabout, the Orerokpe campus of Southern Delta University, and internal roads around Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli.
