Unknown gunmen kill 5 more soldiers in Port Harcourt

Security chiefs held an emergency meeting in Port Harcourt to map out strategies as five more police personnel were reported killed in an attack on a military camp in Abua in Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.i

Details of the meeting, which held at the headquarters of the Rivers State Police Command, were not yet available at press time but security has been beefed up at border towns of the state.

Gunmen attacked and killed eight policemen, air force, and customs personnel at several checkpoints on the Port Harcourt –Owerri road on Sunday. But security operatives have returned to the checkpoints on Monday.

A pastor, Stanley Nnajiuba has narrated how his car was burnt when gunmen attacked the security personnel at the customs checkpoint at Isiokpo road in Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Nnajiuba, who is the Emohua branch of the OPM Ministries said he was returning to Port Harcourt from a wedding in Owerri with his two children his car developed a fault on Isiokpo Road around 9 pm on Saturday.

He said the customs men had promised to watch over the car and he parked it beside their checkpoint. He said he returned the following day to find that the car had been burnt.

Victims of attack on checkpoints in Rivers revealed

“Reaching there on Sunday, I found that the car had been burnt and the customs men killed,” the pastor told reporters. Nnajiuba appealed to kindhearted people to help him get another car.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up at the Imo River boundary between Rivers and Imo State. There is also increased security at the police stations in Oyigbo.
