Don’t appoint liabilities as ministers, Baba-Ahmed tells Tinubu

By Linus Aleke, Abuja

The spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, yesterday told President Bola Tinubu, not to appoint ‘liabilities’ into his cabinet, to avoid stagnation in the economy and national development.

Baba-Ahmed, who gave this charge when he appeared on the AIT breakfast show, FOCUS Nigeria, said that some former governors performed so terribly in office that they would be liabilities to the incumbent administration if appointed ministers.

Noting that Nigerians would be unhappy if some of these poorly performing governors are appointed into his cabinet, the spokesperson of NEF also cautioned the president to overcome the temptation of giving priority to his ethnic group, while constituting his cabinet.

He told Tinubu to ensure that all sections of the country are accommodated in his government, in the spirit of the Federal Character principle.

He further tasked the president to probe the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari if need be, so as to recover stolen funds where necessary.

“There were some who worked with President Buhari who committed all manners of constitutional breaches, including abuse of office. They should be made to pay for their arbitrariness,” he said.
