Don’t put Rohr under pressure, Ike warns

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu, has called on Nigerians to respect coach Gernot Rohr verdict on the choice of Maduka Okoye as the Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper.

Ike informed that as the team manager, Rohr knows the players more than any other person and as such he would be in a better position to talk about each of the players.

The former Shooting Stars of Ibadan safe hand noted that Rohr has a noticeably short time to prepare the team for the country double header-against Benin in Cotonou and Lesotho in Nigeria added that he would like to parade the best among his players.

“Nigerians should not put him under any pressure because if he fails, he only will bear the consequences and if it is otherwise the glory goes to him and the entire team. More so, as the manager he knows all his players than anybody…I think we should respect his verdict”, he advised.

“Besides, the players must take the match against Benin serious because the host team would believe that they could spring a surprise if they win the match against Nigeria. The Binious can be tricky at home. The Super Eagles should watch it”.

Just recently Rohr made a public declaration that Maduka Okoye remains the number one choice of the Super Eagles as he dismissed speculations that Okoye should have been dropped due to poor outing against Sierra Leone inside the renovated Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, conceding four goals after Nigeria side led by 4-0.
