Doping: AIU extends Blessing Okagbare’s ban

Nigerian sprinter, Blessing Okagbare has been banned for an additional year by the Athletics Integrity Unit(AIU) after committing additional anti-doping rules.

Recall that Okagbare was in February 2022 banned by the AIU for ten years after she was caught doping.

However, the AIU extended the ban to 11 years after she failed to respond to charges by the deadline, June 21, 2022.

According to the body, the additional year was added due to the athlete’s failure to admit the anti-doping rule violations (under Rule 2.3 and Rule 2.5 of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules) and she is also yet to accept the consequences attached to it.
