Dr Akinwumi Adesina re-elected as President of African Development Bank

Dr Akinwumi Adesina has been re-elected to continue as president of the African Development Bank for another five years. He was re-elected on Thursday after receiving a hundred per cent votes from all regional and non-regional members of the bank.

The election held virtually and took place on the last day of the 2020 annual meeting.

Mrs Niale Kaba, Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Bank and Minister of National Planning of Côte d’Ivoire, announced the results of the election and was elated that Dr Adesina was re-elected. Adesina has since received congratulatory messages from President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Gbajabiamila, Ahmed Lawan, Ike Ekweremadu, Dr Kayode Fayemi, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Adesina expressed his appreciation for the trust and vowed to continue his selfless service. His second tenure is scheduled to start on the 1st of September 2020.
