DSS arrests ex-minister Nnaji over alleged certificate forgery

By David Lawani, Abuja

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday arrested former Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, over allegations of certificate forgery before transferring him to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for further investigation.

Security sources said Nnaji was apprehended at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport while preparing to board a private jet to Abuja.

According to the sources, the arrest followed a formal request by the ICPC, which is investigating allegations of certificate forgery involving the former minister.

The sources disclosed that Nnaji had allegedly failed to honour several invitations extended to him by the anti-graft agency following petitions bordering on the management of his ministry and the certificate forgery allegations.

After taking him into custody at the airport, DSS operatives reportedly handed him over to ICPC investigators for interrogation and other investigative procedures.

Officials of both the DSS and the ICPC had yet to issue formal statements on the development as of the time of filing this report.

The anti-corruption agency is also yet to disclose the full details of the allegations against the former minister.
